We currently hold one of the largest collections of vintage eyewear in the world. We have original styles from the 1930’s. History
Our story begins in 1930 when Isabel Ascher began designing and manufacturing glasses alongside her sister, Rae Weinberg. Today, more than 80 years later, our family business continues to design and manufacture some of the finest frames available. Phoenix Optical has been serving the Bay Area for over 40 years. Many of our customers followed us from our original Shattuck Ave (Berkeley California location) to our current College Ave (Rockridge – Oakland California location). In 2012 the original Ascher family brand of Fine Arts Optical was introduced to the Mission District of San Fransisco. After 5 fabulous years in SF Ray Ascher (son of Isabel Ascher) decided to open up a new eyewear salon in Petaluma CA. Why? Aside from one of Phoenix Optical’s primary Opticians calling this city home, many of our North Bay, Sonoma County and Marin customers have been asking us for years to open up closer to them. Some of our favorite customers were traveling to the East Bay and San Francisco from Sebastopol, Cotati, Novato, San Rafael, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Mill Valley, Tiburon, Petaluma, Tamales… (you get the idea). We are so grateful for their support over the years and are excited to add a new level of convenience to our service.
